Top Five Modern Films for the Winter

Tis the season for comfort and joy, seeing family and friends, and embracing the love and affection we have for each other. These are just a few light-hearted winter films for you this festive season! 

1. Love Actually 

This is a star-studded British Christmas film that takes nine intertwined stories and examines the complications of the single most important emotion that connects everyone: love. It shows the relationships of these people falling in and out of love and what they go through to get into this position in the first place. This film is full of laughter, heartbreak, and, most importantly, love. As always, “If you look for it, I’ve got a sneaky feeling you’ll find that love actually is all around.” 

2. The Family Stone 

This is a star-studded holiday film in which a successful, uptight woman is brought home by her boyfriend to meet his bohemian family during Christmas time. This causes conflict within the family as she has a hard time fitting in with their irregular ways. In the process, she clashes with the family’s matron while navigating family secrets and dynamics. 

3. While You Were Sleeping 

A lonely transit worker pulls her longtime crush out of the path of an oncoming train. While at the hospital, doctors announce he was in a coma, but because there was a miscommunication his family assumes that the transit worker is his fiancee. She doesn’t correct them, his family takes her in and she eventually finds herself falling for his brother. 

4. Bridget Jones’s Diary 

At the start of the New Year where 32-year-old Bridget Jones expresses a change to take control of her life and starts to keep a diary. In the process, she does exactly everything she didn’t want to do; fall in love with her boss for example. After she realizes she is not turning the page to her new life, she does exactly that in the most hilarious ways possible.

5. Feast of Seven Fishes 

This film shows the life story of your average first-generation Italian-American family on Christmas Eve as they prepare for the traditional Feast of the Seven Fishes. This heartwarming story shows the story of each family member as they reminisce about their uniquely different pasts and how the next generation seeks love.
