Breakers is Back!
By: Emily Eade
The long-awaited wait is over… Breakers is back!
After a long, grueling year without a cafeteria and a fall semester of food trucks, where you had to stand outside waiting for your food in hopes that you wouldn’t miss your next class, we finally have our cafeteria back. What does this mean for you, the students, and the staff?
It means many things, depending on how you look at it. First, the people of Lakeland can receive warm meals without costing them an arm and a leg. Second, it is a source of money to bring back into Lakeland. Third, Breakers brings a sense of unity between the students and staff, with the help of human interaction, it makes Lakeland’s community a little less alienated.
Many students and staff have expressed their excitement for the reopening of Breakers.
A Lakeland student, TJ Godwin said, “I think it’s beneficial to students and staff to have more meal-like options without leaving campus.”
An employee of Lakeland, Jaylen Love said, “I love going to Breakers for lunch! It’s nice to have a warm, healthy meal and many options. The food is always good, and I try to get something different every time. It’s also great to see the students so excited to go to Breakers again!”
Even Lakeland's President Sunil Ahuja, Ph. D., expressed his joy in a recent newsletter: “I am particularly pleased that we will once again offer students a place on campus for a warm meal and an opportunity to interact with other students, and faculty, and staff. I strongly encourage you to take advantage of dining for lunch at Breakers and look forward to seeing everyone there.”
As for those who stay on campus primarily in the H building, they have reopened the Buzz Kiosk! Offering snacks and beverages to hold you out on those long exhausting days in class or studying.
